Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, On Target’s Principal and Chief Marketing Officer, Theresa “Terry” Casey, FSMPS, CPSM, has taken on new leadership roles in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry associations in both Connecticut and San Diego.

In August, Terry was named contract Chief Executive Officer of the Connecticut Building Congress (www.cbc-ct.org), where she has served in a paid contract position as Executive Director for the past 10 years. On September 1, Terry also began her elected, volunteer term as the Society for Marketing Professional Services San Diego Chapter President (www.smpssd.org).

Outgoing, two-time CBC President, Richard Bergan, Bergan Architectural Woodworking, states in CBC’s first video annual report, “Terry and I have worked together for the past 9 years to make CBC a leader in the industry. . . She leads by example, and I have learned more from her about leadership, communication, and management than I could possibly list here.”

We caught up with Rich live for this blog post and he added, “Terry was critical in CBC’s ability to pivot to virtual offerings that brought value to our members and the CT AEC Industry during these unprecedented times. We completed our annual Project Team Awards program with a diverse panel of judges and with a record number of entries, awarded four of our largest scholarships in history, conducted our annual nominations and elections, started virtual weekly Lunch Break socials and monthly educational webinars, and created new sponsorships to fund these activities.”

Michael Geary, SMPS CEO, with international headquarters based in Alexandria, VA, comments, “Terry is one of our esteemed Fellows, one of twelve national subject matter experts who helped us create The Markendium: The SMPS Body of Knowledge, a long-term SMPS member, and past president of the SMPS Connecticut chapter. In just three years after bi-locating, the San Diego Chapter approached her to lead the organization, assess the situation and make recommendations for long-term Chapter sustainability.”

Catherine McCullough, President and CMO of San Diego’s McCullough Landscape Architecture and Planning, SMPS San Diego Chapter Past-President and outgoing SMPS Society Board Member, adds, “Terry’s first order of business was meeting one-on-one with 10 percent of the Chapter membership to better understand Chapter history, values, member needs, and the Chapter’s strengths and challenges. Her next step was to create an Advisory Committee of long-term San Diego Chapter members and Past Presidents to help guide her with strategy and long-term leadership development. I was honored to be a part of it, and with the new Board in place, I’m excited to see where this new chapter of the San Diego Chapter takes us.”

“It’s an honor and privilege to be entrusted as a leader in AEC industry associations on both sides of the country,” Casey states. “With offices in CT and San Diego and clients throughout the U.S., On Target Marketing & Communications offers the benefit of insight and perspective gained while working with the diverse firm and marketing leaders whom we serve. I see great opportunity for both organizations on the horizon, and I look forward to working with the respective boards to reach new heights.”
